Columbus, GA – The #1 ranked Clayton State women's basketball will look to capture the program's fourth Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship today and tie an impressive school record in the process.
The 28-0 Lakers will face North Georgia Sunday in the Championships of the Peach Belt Conference today with tip-off at host Columbus State's Frank G. Lumpkin Center set for 2 p.m. A win by Clayton State will match the school's undefeated streak of 29 games set in the school's magical run to the 2010-11 NCAA Division II National Championship.
The top-seeded Lakers will host North Georgia in the Championships, as the Saints, the 4th seed from Clayton State's West Division, advanced to the finals after defeating Flagler in Saturday's semifinals. The Lakers advanced to the finals after beating USC Aiken 75-62 Saturday.
The Lakers defeated North Georgia twice this season, winning 86-65 at home and 88-56 on the road. Clayton State will be looking for its fourth Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship after capturing titles in 2005, 2007 and 2010. The Lakers lost in last year's championship game to USC Aiken.
