Skyler Coard

Skyler Coard serves as the Head Athletic Trainer for Clayton State University Athletics through Atrium Health, where he oversees the comprehensive healthcare of the Lakers' student-athletes. He is responsible for injury prevention, emergency care, clinical evaluation and diagnosis, therapeutic intervention, rehabilitation, return-to-play management, and coordination of sports medicine services for all Clayton State athletic programs.

A native of Raleigh, North Carolina, Coard earned his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Aurora University before completing his Master of Athletic Training at Aurora while simultaneously being a colligate ice hockey player. During his graduate education, he gained experience across multiple levels of athletics and orthopedic medicine, including clinical rotations with Harvard University Athletics, Northern Illinois University Men's Soccer, IBJI Orthopedics,  Metea Valley High School and Aurora University. 

Skyler is a Board-Certified Athletic Trainer (ATC) and Georgia Licensed Athletic Trainer (LAT). He is committed to providing evidence-based, athlete-centered care while fostering a culture that emphasizes injury prevention, performance enhancement, and long-term health. His professional interests include ACL injury prevention and rehabilitation, concussion management, emergency preparedness, sports performance, and the integration of strength and conditioning principles into athletic healthcare.

At Clayton State, Skyler is focused on building a comprehensive sports medicine program that prioritizes student-athlete wellness, interdisciplinary collaboration, and high-quality medical care. He works closely with physicians, physical therapists, coaches, and other healthcare professionals to ensure each student-athlete receives individualized treatment and support throughout their athletic career.
Outside of athletics, Skyler enjoys strength training, continuing professional education, and staying current with the latest research in sports medicine and athletic performance.
