Rodnic Ward joins the Clayton State University Men’s Basketball program as an Assistant Coach, bringing more than two decades of leadership experience and an extensive background in collegiate, military, international, scholastic, and grassroots basketball. Throughout his career, Ward has developed a leadership philosophy centered on accountability, discipline, relationship building, student-athlete development, and the creation of high-performing team cultures.
Ward previously served as an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Georgia College & State University, where he contributed to a highly successful 2021–22 season. The Bobcats finished 21–8 overall and 13–5 in Peach Belt Conference competition, earning an at-large selection to the NCAA Division II Tournament. His responsibilities included player development, recruiting, scouting, film analysis, and assisting with the overall development of the program. Ward also served as a JUCO recruiting coordinator and worked closely with guards and forwards while supporting the academic and personal development of student-athletes.
His basketball experience extends beyond the collegiate level. Ward has coached extensively within the United States Armed Forces basketball system, including service with All-Navy and All-Armed Forces basketball programs. His coaching experience has included both men's and women's teams and international competition representing the United States Armed Forces. His teams have competed internationally in locations including Belgium and China, providing Ward with a global perspective on player development, team culture, leadership, and competitive preparation. His military basketball experience has also included championship-level success and the opportunity to coach athletes from diverse collegiate and professional backgrounds.
In addition to coaching, Ward possesses significant experience in basketball administration and athlete representation. As Director of Operations with Momentum Sports Management, he has worked with professional athletes competing domestically and internationally while supporting player placement, contract negotiations, career development, NIL opportunities, and organizational operations. His professional basketball experience has strengthened his understanding of the complete student-athlete pathway—from collegiate development and academic success to professional preparation and career transition.
Ward's approach to leadership has also been shaped by a distinguished career in the United States Navy. During approximately two decades of military service, he held numerous leadership, training, security, and operational responsibilities while serving across multiple deployments and international assignments. The leadership principles developed throughout his military career—discipline, preparation, adaptability, accountability, service, and mission accomplishment—continue to influence his approach to coaching and mentoring student-athletes.
Academically, Ward earned a Bachelor of Science in Justice Studies and a Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Sports Business from Grand Canyon University. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership with a concentration in Sports Administration at St. Thomas University, with an anticipated completion date of 2028. His doctoral studies further support his commitment to transformational leadership, organizational development, educational advancement, and the holistic development of student-athletes.
At Clayton State, Ward seeks to contribute to a program culture that emphasizes competitive excellence, academic achievement, personal accountability, and preparation for life beyond basketball. He views coaching as an educational and leadership responsibility that extends beyond wins and losses. His goal is to help student-athletes develop the discipline, confidence, resilience, and leadership capacity necessary to succeed academically, athletically, professionally, and personally.
Ward brings to the Lakers a distinctive combination of NCAA Division II coaching experience, international basketball exposure, professional athlete representation, military leadership, and advanced academic preparation. He is committed to supporting the vision of the Clayton State University Men’s Basketball program while helping develop student-athletes who represent the university with excellence both on and off the court.
