Coach Ludvig Rhodin joined Laker Nation in the Fall of 2023. Coach Rhodin brings great experiences from the Division I, II, and club level that will elevate goalkeeper play for both the men’s and women’s soccer teams.
In his second season, Coach Rhodin guided a pair of PBC All-Conference standouts in Mauricio Uribe and Trinity Chastain. Uribe, who also earned third-Team USC All-Region and Second Team D2CCA All-Region honors, only conceded 16 goals and surrendered under a goal a game. He only allowed two or more goals in four matches this season and also made 60 saves. Chastain only surrendered 11 goals and amassed a goals against average of .81. She also made 60 saves and pitched six shutouts. David Magala also was a standout and helped the Lakers earn the shootout win over Converse in the Round of 32 of the NCAA Tournament.
In his first season, Coach Rhodin mentored Mauricio Uribe who earned a second-team All-PBC nod and went 13-3. Under his direction, Uribe only conceded 21 goals, amassed a save percentage of 75.9%, and only surrendered 1.21 goals a match. Coach Rhodin also guided Lisa Kelm and Trinity Chastain on the women's side. Kelm earned a CSC Academic All-District nod.
Prior to Clayton State, Coach Rhodin was the Assistant Men’s Soccer Coach at NCAA Division II Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, WV. during the 2022-23 season. That season, Ludvig was a part of a staff that led the Senators to a Sweet 16 appearance and a 16-3-1 record. Before his time at Davis & Elkins, Coach Rhodin was a Graduate Assistant for the men’s and women’s soccer teams at Western Illinois University, where he was from 2020-22. There, Ludvig coached the goalkeepers on both the men’s and women’s side.
Prior to Western Illinois, he started out his collegiate coaching career at the University of Incarnate Word where he was a Volunteer Assistant Coach from 2019-20. There, he oversaw the goalkeepers. Here he coached current pro GK Carlos Mercado, who plays for Orlando City.
Rhodin also holds a variety of U.S. Soccer licenses which includes a license in Grassroots 4v4 in-person coaching, Grassroots 11v11 in-person coaching, National “D” license, and recently aquired a National "C" license.
Prior to coming to the U.S., Rhodin played for the famous Helsingborgs IF academy in Sweden. There, he played for four years between the ages of U15 to U19. Ludvig played his collegiate soccer at the University of Mary from 2015-17. As a Marauder, Rhodin played in goal in 44 matches, made 203 saves, and pitched seven shutouts. He was the captain of his team as a sophomore and as a junior. Ludvig then transferred to play at Montana State University Billings from 2018-19. In his one season as a Yellow Jacket, he started in goal for 18 matches, made 72 saves, and pitched a pair of shutouts.
Currently, Coach Rhodin is the Boys and Girls Academy Director for TYSA in Tucker, Ga. Ludvig also runs the Elite Goalkeeper Camp who is considered one of the best goalkeeper camps in the state. That camp started in 2023 and have expanded from Georgia to Louisville as well. Back in the summer of 2023, Coach Rhodin coached the Des Moines Menace where he worked with current Louisville City FC player Ryan Troutman.
Ludvig earned his bachelor’s degree in Business Marketing from Montana State University-Billings in 2019 while he earned his master’s degree in Sports Management from Western Illinois University in 2022.
