A mainstay at Clayton State University since he was a player from 2012-15, Jonny Evans is in his second season as the Laker men's soccer assistant coach. Jonny brings great experiences from the club level to this position for coach Pete Petersen.
Jonny Evans has a vast amount of experience in coaching club teams around the Atlanta area. His experience includes coaching the Concorde Fire Soccer Club (Ga.), the Atlanta United Developmental team (Ga.), the Southern Soccer Academy, and the United Soccer League (USL) 2 club: Southern Soccer Academy Kings. He was also a coach for the Girls Academy League (GAL) and the Development Premier League (DPL).
Evans holds a United States Soccer Federation (USSF) National "B" Coaching License.
Coach Evans also has a very successful playing career. Evans played for head coach Pete Petersen at Clayton State from 2012-15. In his 65 games, Jonny scored seven goals, added 17 assists, and racked up 31 points. In addition, he attempted 81 shots, and was a 2x PBC All-Conference and All-Tournament selection.
Prior to his playing career at Clayton State, Evans played on the Hartlepool United FC Academy and on the Gateshead FC U19's and U21's teams. He also represented England Schoolboys and England Colleges at U18. Evans also played professionally for the Atlanta Silverbacks in 2013 and with Peachtree City MOBA. He was ranked in the USL 2 as a top 50 player in 2016 whilst playing for PTC MOBA,
In 2018, after his time in Morrow, Evans attended Northumbria University in Newcastle, UK and won the Northern British Universities and College Sports (BUCS) North Region League and reached the Semifinals of the National Tournanent.
Evans holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Clayton State and earned his Masters Degree in International Sports Management from Northumbria University in 2019.
