A 15-time All-American in track & field at Johnson C. Smith, Hyman joined Clayton State Athletics in August of 2016 following the completion of his collegiate track career.
 
In his role as Graduate Assistant for Academics and Compliance he is responsible for overseeing the Laker Study Hall program and assisting with various compliance and academic initiatives. Additionally, Hyman will put his speed to use once more as a student-athlete as he also plays for the Lakers men’s soccer team.
 
COLLEGIATE CAREER: JOHNSON C. SMITH (2012-16)
Prior to coming to Clayton State, Hyman was a United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-American 15 times between indoor and outdoor track and field from 2012-16. He was also a three time USTFCCCA All-Academic selection from 2013-15.
 
In outdoor track, the Warwick, N.Y. native took home eight All-American honors, including a nation-leading four in 2015. That season he earned those honors while being part of the NCAA Division II National Champion 4x100-meter relay team and was the 200-meter runner-up. He also achieved All-American recognition in the 400-meters and 4x400-meter relay.
 
Hyman would repeat the feat for the 4x400 meter relay and 200- and 400-meters as a senior in 2016. This followed All-American honors in the 4x400 as sophomore. During his indoor career, he was an All-American in both the 200- and 400-meters as a junior and senior and in the 4x400 as a sophomore.
 
Over the course of his career, he would go on to win an incredible 22 events and be named Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Runner of the Week multiple times. Just before beginning his college career, he was also selected as a member of the Jamaica World Youth Championships Team in 2009.
 
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE (2013-16)
In addition to his sterling collegiate career, Hyman was active within Johnson C. Smith, serving in multiple roles during his time with the Golden Bulls. Among those was an internship with the JCS Compliance Office from September of 2015 through May 2016.
 
In that role he helped develop compliance educational tools and resources that included newsletters and social media designed to educate coaches, student-athletes and boosters about Division II compliance.
 
Hyman also completed weekly updates through Compliance Assistant, including student-athlete eligibility checklists, financial aid and degree progress.
 
From August 2014 to November 2015, he served as a research assistant for Johnson C. Smith's Novant Heart Study and was a University life guard from September to December of 2013.
 
VOLUNTEER EFFORTS (2012-15)
Outside of athletics, he has also participated in the Charlotte Hunger Walk in 2014 and 2015, volunteered with the JCS aqua fit class, was a sport medicine volunteer at the Special Olympics and was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. Back at home in Warwick, New York, he helped to organize a community soccer tournament in 2012 and 2013.
 
EDUCATION
A 2016 graduate of Johnson C. Smith University, Hyman holds a Bachelor of Science in Sports Management with a minor in Sports Medicine and Physical Education.
