Hall of Fame Nomination & Selection Criteria

Established in 2013, the Clayton State Athletics Hall of Fame was created to honor former Laker student-athletes, coaches, administrators, faculty/staff and community members who have, by their outstanding achievements, contributed to the ideals of the Clayton State Department of Athletics.

The Hall of Fame includes links to each individual's bio and, since the Class of 2015, video of their complete induction speeches. The individuals enshrined here are among the greatest Lakers in the program's history.

Nomination Process/Deadlines

Nominations are accepted year-round for the Clayton State Hall of Fame but there is a nomination deadline each year. For the 2019 Class, nominations closed on Sunday, August 12, 2018 at 11:59 p.m. Nominations are accepted online by using the Clayton State Hall of Fame Nomination Form.  

Nomination Criteria

Student-athlete eligibility requirements:

A nominee shall:

  1. Have been a full-time student at Clayton State for at least one academic year;
  2. Have been a letterwinner in at least one intercollegiate sport at Clayton State;
  3. Have completed athletic eligibilty minimum of five years prior to nomination;
  4. Be in good standing with Clayton State University.

Athletics Personnel/University Faculty/ University Staff eligibility requirements:

A nominee shall:

  1. Be eligible for nomination after departure/retirement from Clayton State;
  2. Had been employed at Clayton State for a minimum of two years.

Community Member eligibility requirements:

A nominee shall:

  1. Be eligible, providing he or she has made valuable contributions to Clayton State Athletics as judged by the Hall of Fame Committee.

Selection Criteria

I. Student-Athlete A student-athlete will be judged based on a combination four criteria: athletic accomplishments, academic achievement, extracurricular activities and post-college success. (Below are examples of possible criteria for selection, nominees are not required to have examples from each criteria)

  • Athletic accomplishments: performance, team contributions, achievement and/or leadership in sports competition.
    • Post-season honors and recognitions (All-American, All-Region/District, All-Conference, Player of the Year, Most Outstanding Player, etc.);
    • Advancement to post-season competition such as NCAA/NAIA regional and national championships or conference championship titles;
    • Record-setting performances and all-time record holders;
    • Winning individual championships (NCAA/NAIA national and regional);
    • Holding leadership roles (team captain, student-athlete advisory committee, etc.).
  • Academic achievement
    • All-Academic recognition (All-American, All-Region/District, All-Conference, etc.);
    • Clayton State academic recognition/accomplishments (earning degree, honors program/graduate, academic awards, academic scholarship recipient, etc.).
  • Student extracurricular activities
    • Campus leader (SGA president/delegate, Homecoming King/Queen, campus organization leader, etc.);
    • Community service and civic engagement.
  • Post-college success
    • Athletic achievement after Clayton State (professional or amateur);
    • Career and business success;
    • Public service leadership, civic engagement, community or military service.

II. Athletics Personnel/University Faculty/ University Staff – An individual who has made a lasting contribution through exceptional leadership, investment of time and effort and dedicated service to the Clayton State Department of Athletics.

III. Community Member– An individual who has substantially enhanced the Athletics program at Clayton State through their involvement or contributions.

IV. Special Citations At the discretion of the Hall of Fame committee, individuals and teams may be honored by Special Citation (Individual of Distinction/Team of Distinction).

NOTE: Nominees who are not selected remain in the selection pool. 

Hall of Fame Committee

The Hall of Fame Committee will serve at the request of the Director of Athletics and will be a representative body, consisting of athletic department administrators/coaches, University faculty/staff and community members. Hall of Fame inductees also gain voting privileges upon their enshrinement.
