COCHRAN, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's soccer team hit the road as they played the Knights of Middle Georgia State on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers scored three second half goals and shut out the Knights, 3-0.
The first half saw 11 combined shots but neither team could crack the scoring column. The Lakers did have their fair share of opportunities as
Laila Ortiz-Nolan led the team with a pair of shots on the half.
Rubie Kelley made one save as well as she was only faced with four shots. The first half also had its aggressive moments as both teams combined for nine fouls and one yellow card.
Halftime: Clayton State 0, Middle Georgia 0
The Lakers picked it up offensively in the second half.
Karley Perry, immediately, put two shots on goal and attempted one corner kick. Then the Lakers scored three goals in six minutes. In the 59
th minute,
Jessica Fidhi marked her third goal of the season as she converted a PK. In a couple of minutes later, in the 63
rd minute,
Gabrielle Worthy scored her second goal of the season. Off an assist by Fidhi, the Lakers led 2-0. Clayton State did not take their foot off the gas. In the 65
th minute,
Madysen Fraser knocked in her first goal of the season and the Lakers jumped out to a 3-0 lead.
The Lakers snuffed out each Knight opportunity throughout the match and pitched their third straight shutout winning, 3-0.
