MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's soccer team hosted USC Beaufort for an afternoon matinee at Laker Field on Thursday. The Lakers came away with a 1-0 win.
The two teams played an evenly matched half as USC Beaufort held the ball 52% of the half. The two teams also combined for 13 shots.
Rubie Kelley did not concede a goal and saved a pair of shots. The Lakers scored the lone goal of the first 45. In the 34
th minute, the ball floated into the box and found
Holly Jones who fired a shot into the back of the net for a goal. The Lakers led, 1-0.
That score held true going into the halftime break.

The Sand Sharks came out of the break peppering newly entered keeper
Claire Smith as she made one save and snuffed out four corner kicks in the first 10 minutes of the half. The Lakers then saw shots from
Ninni Ringstad and
Aniyah Vargas but were unable to bury the ball into the back of the net. USCB kept up the offensive pressure but Smith made some excellent saves and the match stayed at 1-0.
Despite being outshot 14-9 and having 17 corner balls, the Sand Sharks were unable to send a ball past the Laker defense as Clayton State pulled off a 1-0 victory.
