WINTER PARK, Fla. -- The Clayton State University women's soccer team opens its 2025 regular season on Thursday down in Florida. The Lakers are looking to start the season on the right foot.

TAKE A LOOK BACK
The Lakers are coming off one of their most successful seasons ,in 2024, as they finished with an overall record of 8-3-6. Eight wins are the most wins in the program since 2019, and three losses are the fewest since 2005. The Lakers reached their sixth straight PBC Tournament but ultimately fell to Georgia College in the First Round. The Lakers are looking to duplicate the success last season. In fact, last season, the Lakers outscored their opponents, 40-16, for a 24-goal differential, which is the highest since 2014.
THE BOOK ON ROLLINS
The Tars are coming off an overall record of 8-5-3 and reached the Semifinals of the Sunshine States Tournament losing to Nova Southeastern, 3-2. The Lakers and the Tars met last season back on September 15
th and the two teams settled for a 1-1 draw. The two teams have met four times since 2004, going 1-1-2 in those contests. The Tars bring back their second leading goal scorer from last season in Lexie Cooper. Cooper scored five goals and added three assists. Rollins also returns its starting keeper from last season in Lauren Mehos. Mehos made 40 saves and wet 5-5-3 during the season.
THE BOOK ON BARRY
On Saturday evening, the Lakers travel down to Miami and play Barry University. The Buccaneers had an overall record of 8-7-2 last season and lost in the Quarterfinals to Florida Tech in the Sunshine States Conference Tournament. This will be the first ever meeting between the two schools. The Buccaneers did not return any goal scorer that scored one or more goals last season and will also feature new faces in net this season.

First-Year Coach
Ricky Clarke has a couple of impact returners from last season's team in
Amiah Sprunger-Hightower and
Hanna Karlsson. Amiah, who was selected to her third straight PBC Preseason All-Conference honor, returns as the second leading scorer from a year ago. Sprunger-Hightower knocked in 11 goals and added a team-leading five assists.
Hanna Karlsson also returns to the team this season. Hanna scored a pair of goals and added a pair of assists as well.
The 2025 team welcomes 14 newcomers to the team for the 2025 season including a new goalkeeper's unit. The Lakers are going to look for those newcomers to do some damage this season to capitalize on the success of 2024. Leading the group of newcomers are goal scorers

Karley Perry,
Aniyah Vargas, defender
Xenia Jacobsen, and goalkeepers
Claire Smith and
Rubie Kelley. The Lakers are also going to look to
Laila Ortiz-Nolan,
Eva Martin,
Brook Wells,
Alyssa Estep,
Miracle Milak,
Karis Coleman, and
Adoria Sanders to also make an impact this season.
