CSC Recognizes Three Laker Student-Athletes as Academic All-District Honorees

MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State University Track & Field standouts Sancho Smith, Destiny Hanna, and Jabresha Palmer were recognized by the College Sports Communicators (CSC) as Academic All-District selections. This is the second such honor for Sancho while JaBresha and Destiny received this prestigious honor for the first time in their Laker careers.    

Smith, who is studying Accounting, had another solid season for the Lakers.  Smith placed in the top 10 in five events and primarily ran in the 800m and 4x400m relay.  In addition, he set a new PR in the 1000m run this season with a time of 2:39.88 and clocked a season-best time in the 800m run of 1:57.45.  In all, Sancho is a two-time PBC Team of Academic Distinction selection and will become a three-time PBC Presidential Honor Roll honoree. 
 
Palmer, who is studying criminal justice, like Smith, was primarily an 800m runner.  She saw her best time come at the Emory Spring Break Classic clocking a time of 2:21.01.  She also finished in the top 15 in the conference meet in the race.  In all, Palmer is a two-time PBC Team of Academic Distinction honoree and will become a three-time PBC Presidential Honor Roll selection.
 
Hanna, who is also a criminal justice major, had a great season for the Lakers.  Destiny was a two-time all-conference selection between the indoor and outdoor season.  She was a part of the 4x100m relay team that took home the conference championship in the outdoor season and currently holds the school record in the event.  This season saw Hanna also place in the top ten in 12 events.   This season also saw Destiny earn PBC Team of Academic Distinction honors. 
 
This year saw 10 CSC Academic All-District selections as a department.  The women's soccer team led the way with three selections while men's soccer, women's basketball, and women's track & field/Cross Country saw two selections apiece. 
 
ABOUT THIS AWARD
The student athlete, as nominated by the Sports Information Directors, must boast a 3.50 GPA, be of sophomore standing, and must be at the current institution for at least one calendar year.  In addition, the student athlete must be ranked in the top 50 in their respective region in at least one event in track & field or ranked in the top 50, regionally, in cross country.  All data must be pulled from TFFRS.
