Women's Soccer Bows out of the PBC Tournament on Saturday Evening

The Lakers finish their season tied for the fewest losses in program history

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's soccer team saw its 2024 season come to a close as the fell to Georgia College, 2-1, in the Quarterfinals of the PBC Tournament on Saturday evening.
 
The Lakers struck first in the first half.  In the 16th minute, Carrie Consolino entered the box and fired a shot into the lower third of the net and in for a goal.  The Lakers led, 1-0.  The Lakers then felt a lot of heat from the Bobcat attack throughout the rest of the half as Tuva Etterlid made five saves in the half and faced eight shots. 
 
Consolino and Hanna Karlsson marked shots for the Lakers, and they took a 1-0 lead going into the halftime break. 
 
Halftime: #5 Clayton State 1, #4 Georgia College 0
 
 The second half also saw Georgia College apply a lot of pressure to Etterlid and the Laker defense.  However, the Bobcats did knot up the score in the 58th minute which made the score, 1-1.  The Lakers applied some pressure of their own as Amiah Sprunger-Hightower, Chloe Flannaghan, Consolino, and Madison Nicolas all fired in shots but they were all snuffed out by the Bobcat keeper.  The Bobcats then took the lead in the 83rd minute off a rebound and made the score, 2-1. 
 
Julia Hasenecz connected on a shot in the 87th minute but the Bobcats hung onto defeat Clayton State, 2-1. 
 
QUICK HITS
  • Consolino scored her 19th goal of the season and led the team with five shots.
  • Etterlid made nine saves and conceded a pair of goals.
  • The three losses on the season for the Lakers is tied for the fewest losses in school history. 
  • The Bobcats outshot the Lakers, 19-12.
