Lakers Conclude Road Trip with a 3-0 loss at Columbus State

Lisa Kelm made seven saves for the Lakers

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's soccer team concluded its road trip as they faced Peach Belt Conference (PBC) familiar, Columbus State, on Wednesday afternoon. The Lakers lost the match to Columbus State, 3-0.   
 
The Cougars pressed from the get-go in the first half.  In the first few minutes of the half, Lisa Kelm thwarted two, excellent opportunities by the Cougars and kept the match at 0-0.  The two teams played back-and-forth soccer until the 19th minute when Columbus State opened the scoring, making the score, 1-0.  The rest of the half was dominated by Columbus State as they outshot the Lakers, 14-3.  Tahlia Stangherlin took two of those three shots with the other one fired in. by Nyeemah Lucky
 
The Cougars added another goal with two second left in the half and took a 2-0 lead going into the halftime break.  Kelm made seven saves in the half.

The second half was dominated early by the Cougars as they added to their lead.  In the 56th minute, the Cougars were awarded a penalty shot and sent it through the back of the net and extended their lead to 3-0.  In the 57th minute, Lois Beer put the ball on frame but it was stopped by the Cougar keeper and the score remained at 3-0. 
 
Serwaah Danso put the only other shot on net for the Lakers in the half at the 80th minute but the Cougars won the match, 3-0.

The Lakers play their first home match since September 5th and host the Pacers of USC Aiken on Saturday, September 23rd at 1 p.m.  Saturday's match from Laker Field is Alumni Day and all Clayton State men's and women's soccer alums receive free entry into the match.
