The Lakers and Bearcats Settled for a 2-2 Draw on a Soggy Wednesday Evening at Laker Field

Carrie Consolino scored with nine second left to force the draw

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State University women's soccer team hosted Lander University on a soggy Wednesday evening at Laker Field.  The two teams settled for a 2-2 draw after Carrie Consolino went top-shelf and scored a goal with nine ticks left in the match. 
 
The two teams found themselves in a 0-0 tie at the end of the first 45 minutes.  Although Lander outshot Clayton State, 7-6, in the half, both teams saw their fair share of chances.  The Bearcats hit the woodwork on two different occasions in the 11th and 18th minute.  Laker keeper Lisa Kelm then made a pair of saves.  The best opportunity for the Lakers came in the 17th minute as Amiah Sprunger-Hightower put in a shot but it was stuffed in front by the Bearcat keeper. Consolino notched three shots in the half. 
 
Halftime: Lander 0, Clayton State 0
 
Play for both teams picked up in the second half.  The Lakers tacked on the first score of the match.  In the 62nd minute, Chloe Flannaghan fed the ball to the red-hot Sprunger-Hightower and her shot found the back of the net for a goal.  The Lakers led 1-0.  The Bearcats then fought back and eventually took the lead as they scored goals in the 64th and 66th minute and led the match, 2-1. 
 
With their backs up against the wall, the Lakers would not go down without a fight.  Tahlia Stangherlin and Ida Ditlevsen all had shots down the stretch.  In the final minute of the game, the unthinkable happened.  In the 90th minute, Nyeemah Lucky threw the ball in from the near side.  With nine seconds left, Lucky connected withc Consolino and she went top shelf for an unbelievable goal.  The Lakers tied the Bearcats at two.
