AIKEN, S.C. – The Clayton State University men's soccer team opened Peach Belt Conference (PBC) play as they traveled to the Palmetto State to take on the Pacers of USC Aiken. The Pacers defeated the Lakers, 3-2.
The Lakers tallied a flurry of shots at the beginning of the first half as both
Langston Blackstock and
Geo Rios had shots-on-frame that were saved by the Pacer keeper. The best opportunity for the Lakers was in the 37
th minute when Rios' corner kick set up
Youkendjy Pacius in the middle of the box, but his header went right in the hands of the Pacer keeper. In the 39
th minute, after a turnover deep in the Laker defensive zone, the Pacers scored the first goal of the match and led, 1-0. Clayton State found themselves down 1-0 after the first 45 minutes of the match. Rios led the team with three shots while
Alexis Iturria and Blackstock followed with a pair of shots.

The Lakers started the half off fast as Blackstock,
Noel Elder, and Rios all connected with at least one shot. The Pacers, however, kept up the pressure and scored their second goal of the match in the 63
rd minute to make the score, 2-0. A few minutes later, the Lakers broke scoring column. In the 68
th minute,
Isaac Pimenta crossed to
Vic Delgado Miller for a goal. The Lakers cut the USC Aiken lead in half. Later in the half, USC Aiken grew their lead and scored a goal, in the 80
th minute, and led 3-1. The Lakers closed the gap to 3-2 in the 84
th minute as Blackstock fed Pimenta in the middle of the box for a goal.
That goal by Pimenta proved too little to late as the Lakers fell in their PBC opening match, 3-2.
