Men’s and Women’s Soccer to Host PBC Opponents Saturday

MORROW, Ga. – Clayton State soccer will host two Peach Belt Conference matches Saturday as the men's and women's teams are in action.  

The women's team hosts No. 1 Flagler College while the men host conference-rival North Georgia.

- The women's soccer team hosts Flagler College, the No. 1 team in the nation
- Flagler leads the overall series 6-5-2
- The last time the two teams met was in the PBC Conference Championship match in 2019
- The Saints won that meeting 1-0 in overtime
- Flagler has won four-straight over Clayton State
- At home, the Lakers are 3-2
- The two teams did not play last season (COVID-19)
- The teams first played in 1996 before beginning the annual regular series in 2009
- This will mark the first conference match of the season for both teams
 
The Teams:
Clayton State (0-3-1, 0-0-0 PBC)
- Opened the season with a double overtime loss against Valdosta State
- Followed up with a 2-2 draw against Lincoln Memorial before losing 4-0 to Montevallo
- The Lakers then lost 4-0 at West Georgia
Kamila Mroziewicz leads the team with two goals
Isabel Massa and Luise Domnick have each tallied one goal
Valentina Bonaiuto has recorded 23 saves which is tied for second in the PBC
- The Lakers travel to Queens (N.C.) on Wednesday, September 22.
 
No. 1 Flagler (3-0-0, 0-0-0 PBC)
- The Saints enter Saturday having won three games over Sunshine State Conference Opponents
- They opened the season with a 4-1 win over Saint Leo before winning in overtime 4-3 over Lynn
- They then took a 2-1 double-overtime win over Rollins
- Josefine Nilsen was named National Player of the Week with a three-goal effort in two games
- Annie Habeeb and Brin Wexler have added two goals apiece
- Goalkeeper Madison North has eight saves in two games
- The Saints host Young Harris on September 25

- The men's soccer team hosts North Georgia for the 30th meeting between the two schools
- The Lakers lead the overall series 22-4-3
- Last season the two teams split 1-1
- Clayton State opened last season with a 2-1 win while North Georgia won at home 1-0 in overtime
- Beginning in 1992, Clayton State never lost to UNG until 2015
- Since then, the Lakers are 3-4-1 against the Night Hawks
 
The Teams:
Clayton State (2-3-1, 0-0-0 PBC)
- Opened the season with a 2-2 draw against Lees-McRae
- Followed that with a 2-0 win over Erskine before losing 4-3 in double overtime to Queens (N.C.)
- Clayton State lost 2-1 to Auburn Montgomery on Friday night
- The Lakers then fell 3-0 to Tampa on Sunday
- The men rebounded with a 4-0 win over USC Aiken in their conference opener
- Geo Rios leads the team with 10 points (2g,6a) and 6 assists
- He is tied for third in the PBC with 10 points
- Leads the league with 10 assists
- Langston Blackstock has a team high 3 goals and is tied for fifth in the conference in goals
- He leads the conference in shots (28) and shots on goal (13)
- Alexis Iturria and Joe Conway each have two goals and an assist
- Theo Blachon is tied for first in the conference with 16 saves
- The Lakers were picked fourth in the preseason coaches poll
 
North Georgia (3-1-0, 0-1-0 PBC)
- The Night Hawks opened the season with three-straight wins
- UNG took down Erskine 2-1 in the final second before winning 4-2 over Lee Univ.
- A 3-2 win over Alabama Huntsville preceded closed the winning streak
- UNG then lost its conference opener to Lander 3-2
- Donovan Odier is second in the PBC with six goals
- Harrison Wright is the only other Night Hawk to have multiple goals (2)
- Keeper Garrett Liles has 12 saves and is ranked fourth in the league
- He is averaging two goals per game
- UNG was voted fifth in the preseason conference coaches poll
