MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State women's soccer team fell 1-0 to UNC Pembroke in the final seconds of the second overtime in Monday's Peach Belt Conference matchup.
After playing a full 90 minutes of regulation and 19 minutes of overtime, the match seemed to be heading to a 0-0 draw. But UNC Pembroke's Rilee Seering delivered a blast from close to 50 yards out and watched the ball just squeak by
Valentina Bonaiuto's hands as the horn rang.
The Braves (6-2, 5-2 PBC) controlled most of the game and outshot the Lakers 20-5. Clayton State (2-2, 2-2) placed two of its shots on cage while UNCP had 11 shots on target.
Ann-Cathrin Zabel had both shots on goal while
Nina Koopman,
Lois Beer and
Reia Henry all tallied one shot.
Bonaiuto finished with 10 saves.
COMING UP:
- The Lakers return to action on Monday with a trip to Young Harris.
- Clayton State is then scheduled to wrap up its regular season at home on April 1 with a matchup against Georgia College.
