EVANS, Ga. – The Clayton State men's soccer team concluded its season on Sunday with a 2-1 loss to No. 1 Young Harris in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship Game.
Trailing 2-0 early in the second half,
Isaac Pimenta scored for Clayton State off an assist from
Langston Blackstock to cut the deficit by one score. The Lakers managed three more shots throughout the half, but only placed one on goal.
Sunday's tournament championship appearance was the first for the Lakers since they won the conference tournament championship in 2007. Young Harris has won the tournament championship four times in that span.
The first half was pretty even when it came to shot count, but Young Harris scored two goals in a three-minute span to take a 2-0 lead after 28 minutes.
The Mountain Lions carried the lead into halftime and continued with the offensive attack as goalkeeper
Theo Blachon made six saves in the final 45 minutes.
The Lakers conclude the season with nine wins and totaled seven wins in conference play.
Clayton State again played only 13 players as eight played full time.
Blackstock led the team with 27 points for the season off 11 goals and five assists.
Geo Rios tallied 12 assists, ranking fourth in the nation, and closed the season with 22 points.
Blachon led the league in minutes played, saves, shutouts, saves per game and was fourth with a 1.775 goals against average.
