Men's Soccer to Honor Seniors on Wednesday in PBC Matchup vs. Lander

MORROW, Ga. – The Clayton State men's soccer team closes out its regular-season home schedule Wednesday afternoon with a Peach Belt Conference matchup against Lander University.

The match is set for a 3:30 p.m. start time and will play an important role in the regular season PBC standings. Clayton State is currently second in the league with 16 points while Lander is third with 15 points.

With the conference tournament looming, both teams will be fighting for second place and a first-round bye.

Prior to the match, Clayton State will honor five seniors: Francisco Arias, Theo Blachon, Brad Kay, Joel McIlroy and Josh Rodgers.

- Clayton State is looking to even the regular-season series against the Bearcats after falling 4-0 at Lander on Sept. 29
- Lander leads the overall series 25-8-3
- At home, Clayton State is 5-8-2
- The Lakers last won in 2014 with a 2-0 decision at home
- Clayton State has three matches left in the regular season while Lander has four remaining
 
The Teams:
Clayton State (6-6-2, 5-3-1 PBC)
- Opened the season with a 2-2 draw against Lees-McRae (9/2)
- Followed that with a 2-0 win over Erskine (9/4) before losing 4-3 in double overtime to Queens (N.C.) (9/7)
- Clayton State lost 2-1 to Auburn Montgomery on Sept. 10
- The Lakers then fell 3-0 to Tampa Sept. 12
- They then entered PBC play with a 4-0 win over USC Aiken (9/15) and a 4-2 win over UNG (9/18)
- Tied GSW 1-1 (9/22) before rebounding with a 3-2 win over Flagler (9/25)
- The Lakers trailed 2-0 in the Flagler match before scoring three straight to win in the final minutes
- The suffered back-to-back losses to Lander (4-0 – 9/29) and No. 5 Young Harris (2-1 – 10/6)
- Won 3-1 at UNG on Oct. 9
- The Lakers then downed Ga. Southwestern 4-0 before falling at Flagler 2-1
Geo Rios leads the team with 20 points (5g, 10a) and eight assists
- Ranks tied for fourth in the PBC with 20 points
- In tied for first in the PBC and tied for third in the country in assists
Langston Blackstock and Alexis Iturria each have six goals
Theo Blachon leads the conference with 50 saves and is second in the country in minutes played (1324)
 
Lander (8-5-0, 5-3-0 PBC)
- Coming off a 4-1 loss to Young Harris
- Has conference wins against USC Aiken (twice), Clayton State, Flagler and North Georgia
- Tom Marriott leads the team and conference with 32 points and is second in the league with 12 goals and eight assists
- Max McNulty is tied for fourth in the PBC with 20 points (9g, 2a)
