Clayton State Athletics Announces Inaugural League of Legends Schedule Featuring 15 Contests

MORROW, Ga. – Entering the first official League of Legends season in program history, Clayton State Athletics has announced the 2019-20 schedule featuring 15 regular season contests and the 2020 Peach Belt Conference Championships.

All regular season games are set for 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays and will be contested remotely with the exception of the league championship. All teams currently on the schedule are members of the PBC and will be league contests.

That inaugural campaign will begin against a brand new PBC affiliate member when the Lakers host Henderson State on February 1 and will be followed by a road meeting with Lander (2/2) a day later. The following weekend will see action at 2018 PBC Champion North Georgia (2/8) and a home outing vs. Montevallo (2/9).

On February 15 Clayton State will face one of its toughest challenges as they will host defending PBC Champion USC Aiken before taking on Young Harris (2/16) in road action. Saturday, February 22 will see one of the unique things with competing in Esports with distance not inhibiting schools oceans apart from competing. On that day, the Lakers will have just such a meeting as they "host" Hawaii Pacific.

The following day will see an outing against Georgia Southwestern (2/23) and then another distance battle with Alma (2/29) which is located in Michigan. Four of the next five contests will then be against core PBC members, beginning with back-to-back games against Augusta (3/1) and Georgia College (3/7).

Following those contests Clayton State will take on the other new PBC affiliate member in Florida Southern (3/8). The Mocs field a robust Esports program competing in four different venues including Overwatch, Rocket League, Hearthstone and League of Legends and should provide a solid challenge approaching the postseason.

The Lakers will then wrap that stretch against core members as they take on rival Columbus State (3/14) and Flagler (3/15) before closing out the regular season "at" Coker (3/21).

From there the top teams in the league will advance, on-site, to Greenwood, South Carolina for the 2020 Peach Belt Conference Championships on the campus of Lander. That title bout will feature the quarterfinal round on Friday, March 27 before contesting the semifinals and championship on Saturday, March 28.

The 2020 champion and runner-up will then both advance to the College League of Legends National Play-In Round by virtue of automatic berths.
