Two First Half Goals Sink Clayton State in 2-0 Loss at Auburn-Montgomery

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – A pair of first half goals would be all that would be needed as Clayton State (6-2, 0-0 PBC) suffered a rare power outage as they fell by a 2-0 score at Auburn-Montgomery (4-3, 1-0 GSC) in an NCAA Division II men's soccer game on Saturday, September 28.

Twenty five minutes of scoreless play would be broken by AUM's Thomas Carlile as he produced his team leading third score of the season at the 25:12 mark. It would take just over eight minutes for him to add to that total as he collected a pass from Darius Rashid and drove it home to the high right corner to make it 2-0 at 33:25.

The clubs would head to the break with that margin, and despite a combined 19 shots in the second half, not much would change. The Warhawks fired off 11 while Clayton State had eight as they closed out the 2-0 decision.

Carlile led AUM with his two scores and Rashid had the only assist to account for all of the offense. Carlile also led with nine shots, an impressive six on goal. Only Natan Hjaltalin had more than two shots, finishing with three. Alexander Kraus played all 90 minutes in net, making two saves to earn the shutout and move to 4-1.

Redshirt-senior midfielder Ryan King (County Durham, England) fired off five of the Lakers 13 shots, including both of their attempts on goal. Junior goalkeeper Theo Blachon (St. Etienne, France) had a rare rough outing as he allowed a pair of scores and made five saves in 90 minutes of work. He falls to 6-2 through his first eight games.

Clayton State concludes a season long three game road stretch as they head to Georgia Southwestern to begin Peach Belt Conference play on Saturday, October 5. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. in Americus, Georgia.
