First Road Test Awaits Clayton State With Midweek Trip to Southern Wesleyan

MORROW, Ga. – Coming off their first 2-0 start since 2015, Clayton State (2-0, 0-0 PBC) men's soccer looks to continue that stretch as they travel to Southern Wesleyan (0-1, 0-0 CC) for a non-conference meeting on Wednesday, September 11. Game time is set for approximately 7 p.m. following SWU's women's contest.

The teams have met just once since a Georgia Athletic Conference Tournament Second Round game on November 8, 1996 when both clubs were still members of the NAIA. Clayton State would win that game and advance to the GAC Championship game before falling 3-0 to Brewton-Parker.

Besides that path to a championship berth, the teams are linked together even further back in the program's history. Their first game on September 19, 1992 in Central, South Carolina was also the first ever game in Lakers history.

Clayton State delivered a 7-0 victory in that game and would go on to win the first five meetings through September 20, 1995, the last of three games in the series at Laker Field. SWU notched their only victory by a narrow 2-1 margin on October 16, 1996 to snap that streak.

Overall, the Lakers hold a 7-1 advantage in the series following their most recent meeting on September 13, 2017, a 5-1 Clayton State victory at Laker Field.

Coverage of the game will be available through both live video and live stats. Both are available on www.ClaytonStateSports.com.

NOTES
Clayton State men's soccer has won their first three games five times in program history, notching a high water mark of eight in 2000 and 2010 … the others are seven straight in 2002, the first four in the first season in program history (1992) and three in 2011.
