HAMPTON, Ga. – Clayton State Athletics kicked things off right as nearly 100 individuals took part in the 2019 Laker Golf Classic in support of more than 140 Laker student-athletes at Crystal Lake Golf & Country Club in Hampton, Georgia on Monday, August 26.
Â
All proceeds of the event benefit the ongoing educational pursuits of current and former Clayton State student-athletes, particularly those within reach of completing their degrees.
Â
A traditional best ball scramble, the Classic featured a host of dedicated community partners. A number of those were organizations or individuals that have supported the Lakers in previous Classics and played today.
Â
The day also featured a number of special events and prize opportunities, including Hole-in-One and long drive contests. Heritage Cadillac provided a brand new vehicle on the line for anyone that could ace the hole it was on.
Â
Teams took to the course in a shotgun start around 9:30 a.m., following breakfast sponsored and provided by Bojangles. Among the day's highlights was a dinner sponsored by Rocky's Café and Pizza followed by the awards ceremony at the close of day. The latter also featured a raffle for various prizes that included signed memorabilia from Atlanta sports teams as well as other articles.
Â
Overall, the Rocky's sponsored team of Paul Cappozzoli, Randy Sizemore, Ron Melin and Todd Lassiter took home first place honors. Each received a prize package for their performances.
Â
The Laker Golf Classic will return to the Crystal Lake family of courses for 2020. Stay tuned to
