NEW ORLEANS, La. – An impressive list of accomplishments was added to for Clayton State women's track & field as senior
Destiny Johnson (New Iberia, La.) and junior
Jasmine Radford (Lawrenceville, Ga.) each earned United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Outdoor All-Southeast Region recognition as announced by that organization earlier this week.
Â
Radford earned her first career All-Region honor in the 200-meters as she competed in eight meets, six times in that event and landed in the top three a total of three times. That included winning the 2019 Peach Belt Conference Championship (4/21) ahead of 16 other competitors with a time of 26.21 and finishing 3-of-39 (24.99) at the Doc Anderson Invitational (3/16) and 3-of-28 (25.01) at the Gulf South/Peach Belt Challenge (4/6).
Â
For Johnson, it is her second career recognition following a 2017 honor, both of which have been in the high jump. This year she has delivered the best season of her career, seeing action in all nine meets and competing in the high jump in each one.
Â
Those performances we're headlined by two NCAA Provisional heights, including her mark of 1.72-meters at the Mount Olive Last Chance Meet (5/12) that punched her ticket to the NCAA Division II National Championships. She also hit a provisional of 1.68-meters at the Don McGarey Invitational (4/27) and earned All-Peach Belt Conference recognition with a 2-of-10 outing on April 19.
Â
In those nine jumps, she never finished lower than third and won three events – four if you count the high jump portion of the heptathlon in which she set a school record with 3,580 points. She won at the Savannah State Eye Opener (3/2), Emory Invitational (3/22) and Gulf South/Peach Belt Challenge (4/6).
Â
She will be only the third Laker to compete in the high jump at the national championships next week as she earned her spot with the 13
th highest mark in NCAA Division II in 2019.
Â
"This is a nice postseason honor for Destiny and Jasmine," said head coach
Mike Mead. "Destiny has had a terrific senior season while Jasmine continues to grow in her event."
Â
In order to earn All-Region recognition, an individual has to either finish in the top five in their region in individual events or be a member of a relay team ranked in the region's top three.
Â
NOTE
This is the first time the program has had multiple All-Region selections in outdoor since the 2015-16 campaign.
