DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Five more All-Conference honors and a repeat champion closed the final day of the 2019 Peach Belt Conference Championships as Clayton State women's track & field delivered the most points in that event in program history on Saturday, April 20.
Â
Junior
Jasmine Radford (Lawrenceville, Ga.) led those efforts as she delivered an outstanding performance to repeat as 200-meter champion, posting a time of 26.21. With last year's 200-meter championship, it makes her the first Laker to produce multiple individual titles and represents the third All-Conference honor of her career.
Â
Junior
Nia Elmore (Hinesville, Ga.) was just as impressive as she accounted for two of those five All-Conference performances. She finished 2-of-13 in the 100-meters with a near record time of 11.94 and was 3-of-17 in the 200-meters (26.65). That brings her career total to five All-PBC honors, marking the most in program history. That number surpasses the four by Radford.
Â
Fresh off a school record in the heptathlon yesterday, senior
Destiny Johnson (New Iberia, La.) picked up her second career All-PBC honor as she finished 2-of-10 in the high jump (1.60m). Her other came in that same event in 2017. Sophomore
Corta'Nasha Mutcherson (Savannah, Ga.) rounded out the All-Conference performances with a 3-of-18 effort in the 400-meters (57.52) and was also 7-of-17 in the 200-meters (26.98).
Â
Senior
Carla Catala Martin (Barcelona, Spain) came within shouting distance of All-PBC in a pair of events as she finished 5-of-12 in the 1,500-meters (4:58.38) and 5-of-19 in the 5,000-meters (109:00.87). Sophomore
Chaviya Jackson (Albany, Ga.) came in 7-of-18 in the 400-meters with a time of 59.89 and sophomore
Na'ilah Allen (McDonough, Ga.) was 8-of-22 in the 800-meters (2:26.01) to close out the top outings.
Â
As a team, Clayton State hit several marks as they produced both the highest finish at 4-of-7 and the greatest point total at 94 in their history at the PBC Championships. The fourth place finish comes in ahead of the 5-of-8 at the inaugural championships in 2013 and the 94 points obliterated the 67 earned at the 2014 meet.
Â
Additionally, the Lakers 10 All-PBC honorees over the course of the championships bested the most in program history. The previous mark was six, the first of those coming in 2014 among four individuals and the most recent was last year with the 4x100-meter relay accounting for most of those. It is also just the second time they've had consecutive seasons with at least one individual champion, the other occurrence coming in 2013 and 2014.
Â
With a tremendous performance behind them, Clayton State now looks to securing as many individual berths in the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championships. To that end they'll add at least one "last chance" meet in the coming weeks.
