NEW ORLEANS, La. – Clayton State men's and women's indoor track & field have combined to earn a pair of United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honors as announced by that organization late last month.
Â
Senior
T.J. Witherspoon (Thomasville, Ga.) earned his first All-Region recognition in the 800-meters after finishing 1-of-29 in that event at the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker (11/30) and 4-of-38 (1:57.68) at the Southern Indoor Challenge (2/11).
Â
In what has already been an outstanding career that includes 17 program records, junior
Nia Elmore (Hinesville, Ga.) also collects her first career All-Region honor, doing so in the 60-meters.
Â
This year she broke that program mark for the sixth time with a time of 7.70 on January 20 at the Emory CrossPlex Invitational, finishing 2-of-66. She also finished 9-of-84 (7.82) at the Carolina Challenge on February 1 and 17-of-71 with a time of 7.83 at the BSC Panther Indoor Icebreaker.
"A nice honor for these hard-working upperclassmen!", said head men and women's track & field coach
Mike Mead. "They continue a string of All-Region honorees for our indoor teams."
Â
In order to earn All-Region recognition, an individual has to either finish in the top five in their region in individual events or be a member of a relay team ranked in the region's top three.
