MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – A crippling 26-4 second half run by Clayton State (15-7, 11-5 PBC) vaulted them to a 63-48 victory at Georgia College (10-12, 8-8 PBC) in an NCAA Division II women's basketball game on Wednesday, February 13.
Â
Redshirt-junior guard
Madison Newby (Lawrenceville, Ga.) continued her strong play of late as she led the Lakers with 15 points, career-high nine rebounds and three steals while junior center
Brittany Williams (Albany, Ga.) topped her personal best with 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting.
Â
Junior guard
Taneria Wilson (Fort Pierce, Fla.) was a jack of all trades as she scored nine points, ripped down seven boards, dished out four assists and had three steals in just 20 minutes.
Â
Redshirt-senior guard
Monica Alexander (Richmond, Va.) tied her career-high with seven caroms and added four points and senior forward

Neither club would start off very hot as the lead changed hands four times over the first 4:26 but resulted in just seven points between the two. Trailing 3-2, the Lakers would grab that fourth lead change and use it to spearhead a 9-0 run over the next 2:22 and pull head by an 11-3 margin with 3:12 on the clock. GC would get off the deck in those final minutes of the first and close to a 15-8 deficit heading to the second.
Â
Coming off of back-to-back buckets to wrap up the first, Clayton State added a third for another nine point margin in the opening minutes of the second period. Momentum would change hands at that point as the Bobcats put together a 13-2 run, fueled by three triples, to retake the lead at 21-19 by the 5:58 mark.
Â
Consecutive baskets by the Lakers put them back ahead by a pair but it would be fleeting as Georgia College tied it up, the first of three deadlocks over the rest of the frame, and took back the lead before closing the half with a narrow 29-27 advantage.
Â
Holding a 33-30 lead, it would be the Bobcats turn to experience the other side of a cold spell as Clayton State surged back ahead behind an impressive 17-0 rally. That stretch, powered by five points from Wilson and four from Williams, vaulted them to a commanding 47-33 lead with 1:39 left in the third.
Â
A basket by GC did not stem the tide as the Lakers followed with five straight points from Bland to close the period up 52-35 and with an overall run of 22-2. That would be the beginning of the end for Georgia College as it would end up being a 26-4 run and a 19 point margin, 56-37, with 7:03 left before the Lakers closed out the 63-48 victory.
Â
Sydney Cleveland and Keyonna Wesley each had 11 points and five boards to lead the Bobcats while Dail Adaway flirted with a double-double with 10 rebounds and six points. Jasmine McSwain added eight points and Kenyatta Storms chipped in with seven caroms and a pair of assists.
Â
The Lakers return home to The Loch on Saturday, February 16 when they host Flagler. Tip-off is set for a special time of 3 p.m. on Homecoming.
