MORROW, Ga. – Coming off of just their second loss in league play, and fifth overall, Clayton State (12-5-0, 4-2-0 PBC) men's soccer will host USC Aiken (4-10-0, 2-4-0 PBC) on Saturday, November 9 in a game key to both teams 2019 Peach Belt Conference Tournament aspirations. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Laker Field with Senior Day directly preceding kickoff.
Â
The Lakers currently sit in a tie for third behind No. 9 Young Harris (15 points) and No. 21 Lander (15) and are tied with Francis Marion at 12 points. FMU and Young Harris play each other so could each finish with 15 points while Clayton State would need a win over USCA and Flagler to pull the upset over the Bearcats for both of those teams to join them in a four way tie for first place. USCA is one of three teams tied at six points apiece fighting to get into the tournament.
Â
The Lakers are an
impressive 18-8-3 all-time against USCA, dating to the first meeting on September 26, 1992 in the program's inaugural season. In fact, the teams have met every season since then with the exception of the 1993 campaign. The 29 prior meetings ranks as the third most against any opponent, trailing 33 against Lander (8-22-3) and 30 with Francis Marion (11-13-6).
Â
Clayton State won a series best six games from October 17, 2009 to October 26, 2013 and has two separate four game winning streaks. The Pacers won the back-to-back meetings, 4-1 on October 25, 2014 at Laker Field, and 2-1 on October 23, 2015 in Aiken, South Carolina, before the Lakers delivered a 5-1 victory in Morrow on October 22, 2016.
