MORROW, Ga. – Currently experiencing their best season since the 2010 Elite Eight campaign, No. 3 seed Clayton State (13-5, 5-2 PBC) will host No. 6 seed Flagler (4-11-1, 3-4-0 PBC) in a 2019 Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer Tournament Quarterfinal on Tuesday, November 12. Game time is set for 2 p.m. at Laker Field, weather permitting, as the game could be moved if necessary.
Â
The Lakers earned their 22
nd berth in 23 years with an impressive regular season that had them within one game of a co-championship. The club made the tournament for 19 straight seasons from 1997-2015 and during that time they won three championships, including 2000, 2005 and 2007. They have advanced to at least the semifinals for 13 seasons, including the past two seasons when they faced Lander.
Â
The Lakers are
5-10-1 in 16 all-time meetings with the Saints, dating back to the first meeting on October 26, 1996. FC would win that game 3-1 as they took the first three match ups before Clayton State picked up a 1-0 win on November 12, 2010.
Â
Flagler would take the next three games before the teams tied, 2-2, on September 21, 2013. The Lakers then notched the next two before dropping the 2015 meeting 3-2 on September 19 and falling 4-3 on October 29, 2016.
Â
In 2017 the teams met twice in a span of three days, with the Saints posting a late 2-1 victory in St. Augustine, Florida in the first outing on October 28. Clayton State, however, would have the last laugh as they headed right back down to Florida for the PBC Quarterfinals and delivered a last minute header for a 1-0 victory on October 31. The Lakers fell by a 2-1 margin at Laker Field on October 6, 2018 but registered a victory by that same score on October 20 of this year.
