MORROW, Ga. – In a game that could go a long way to determining the Peach Belt Conference regular season champion, Clayton State (10-3, 3-0 PBC) men's soccer squares off with perennial foe No. 21 Young Harris (8-3, 2-1 PBC) on Saturday, October 26. Game time is set for 3:30 p.m. at Laker Field but could be relocated to a turf facility in the vicinity with heavy rainfall expected throughout the day.
While the Lakers are
4-6 all-time against Young Harris, it is that fourth win that truly marks the series. On October 18, 2017 at Laker Field, Clayton State stunned the No. 7 ranked Mountain Lions as then sophomore midfielder
Dean Foster (Johannesburg, South Africa) drilled the game tying goal in the 69
th minute. He would then drive home the game winner in overtime from 30 yards out on the right wing for a thrilling 4-3 decision.
Â
That win was not only one of the most impressive performances in program history but it also snapped five straight wins in the series for YHC. Prior to that run, the Lakers had taken the first three beginning with a 3-1 decision on October 23, 2010.
Â
They would win each of the next two years, posting a 4-1 victory in the mountains on September 21, 2011 and again, this time 2-1, at Laker field on October 24, 2012. The latter was the first Peach Belt Conference meeting between the two. Most recently the Mountain Lions escaped with a 1-0 win in the mountains on October 13, 2018.
