MORROW, Ga. – Off to an impressive start anchored by outstanding defense and timely offense, Clayton State (7-2, 1-0 PBC) men's soccer will get their first real test this season as era's collide when John Rootes' No. 8 ranked Lynn (7-0-1, 4-0-1 SSC) squad visits Laker Field for the first time since 2009 on Saturday, October 12. Game time is set for a special 3:30 p.m. kickoff as part of Alumni Weekend.
 
It is not just a reunion for former Laker student-athletes but Rootes as well, as he returns to Laker Field as the Fighting Knights head coach for just the second time. One of just six head coaches in the program's 29 years, Rootes directly preceded current head coach Pete Petersen from 1998-2003, compiling a 66-42-9 record in the Orange and Blue.
 
On the two occasions that Lynn has played Clayton State they notched victories, posting a 3-0 decision in the lone contest in Morrow on September 6, 2009. They followed two years later with a narrow 2-1 victory in Boca Raton, Florida on September 9, 2011. For Rootes personally, he owns a 5-1 record against the Lakers since moving on. Three of those, and the only loss, came in each of the four seasons that he coached at Savannah College of Art & Design (2004-07).
 
NATIONAL STATISTICAL RANKINGS
As of the October 10 release, Clayton State leads the nation in save percentage (.905), is sixth in shutout percentage (.667) and seventh in goals against average (.442). Offensively they are 12^th in scoring offense (2.78), 17^th in total goals (25) and points per game (7.44), 22^nd in total points (67) and 30^th in total assists (17).
 
Individually, junior goalkeeper Theo Blachon (St. Etienne, France) is among the national leaders in shutouts with sixth. Exact numbers are not available as the national stats cannot properly calculate that stat at this time. Of the ones that they can, the 6-6 keeper is third in save percentage (.900) and seventh in goals against average (0.44).
