Georgia Southwestern Visits Laker Field as Clayton State Returns From 10-Day Layoff

MORROW, Ga. – Following a 10-day layoff as a result of Hurricane Florence, Clayton State (2-0-2, 0-0-0 PBC) returns to action as they host Georgia Southwestern (2-3, 0-0 PBC) in both teams Peach Belt Conference opener on September 19. They were originally scheduled to open PBC play at USC Aiken on Saturday, September 15 before the closure of USCA's campus for safety reasons postponed that game.

All-time, the Lakers are a perfect 12-0 against the Hurricanes dating back to the first meeting on September 11, 2006 in Morrow, Georgia. Including that 6-0 victory, they have won nine of the 12 games by at least two goals.

GSW came closest in a 2-1 loss on October 21, 2009, a 1-0 defeat on October 17, 2002 and a 2-1 decision on October 12, 2016. All three of those games were in Americus. Last season Clayton State produced a 5-0 victory in Morrow on October 11. This year's meeting will be the first time the teams have ever played outside of the month of October.

The Lakers are looking to run their undefeated streak to start the season to five games. It would be only the fourth time that that has happened, joining the 2002, 2004 and 2007 squads. Only the 2002 team stretched that run to six undefeated before falling.

There will be live video and live stats coverage of the game, both of which are available on www.ClaytonStateSports.com.
