CARROLLTON, Ga. – Junior
Evan Ortiz (McDonough, Ga.) paced a runner-up finish by Clayton State men's cross country as they opened 2018 at the UWG Wolves XC Season Opener on Friday, August 31. As a team they finished with 33 points, just six behind host West Georgia.

Ortiz finished 2-of-24 with a time of 25:14.25 to pace the Lakers while senior
T.J. Witherspoon (Thomasville, Ga.) was fourth with a mark of 26:04.94. Sophomore
Zach Czerniak (Suwanee, Ga.) was right behind him in fifth (26:18.73) and senior
Ryan Polk (Marietta, Ga.) rounded out the top finishers at 9-of-24 (26:51.54).

Following a two week hiatus, Clayton State is back in action on Saturday, September 15 when they travel to Augusta, Georgia for the Jaguar Cross Country Invitational. That race will begin at 9 a.m. and be a distance of 8k.
