Clayton State Heads to North Georgia for 21st PBC Tournament Appearance in 22 Years

MORROW, Ga. – After battling down the stretch to get in, Clayton State (3-10-2, 2-5-0 PBC) will travel to No. 3 seed North Georgia (7-6-1, 4-3-0 PBC) for a 2018 Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer Tournament Quarterfinal on Tuesday, October 30. Game time is set for 6 p.m. in Dahlonega, Georgia.

The Lakers earned their 21st berth in 22 years with a 1-0 win at USC Aiken on Saturday, October 27. The club made the tournament for 19 straight seasons from 1997-2015 and during that time they have won three championships, including 2000, 2005 and 2007. Twelve of those years have seen them advance to at least the semifinals, including last season against eventual tournament champion Lander.

Up until a 1-0 loss on October 14, 2015, the Lakers were perfect in 21 games against the Nighthawks (formerly Saints) but now hold a 20-3-2 record in the series. Clayton State won the first 13 meetings from the first outing on October 11, 1992 (the inaugural season) through November 2, 2007.

That unbeaten streak would carry through 2014 and see only a pair of ties, 1-1 on October 11, 2008 and 0-0 on October 10, 2012. The Lakers regained their winning ways in the series, posting a convincing 5-2 victory in Dahlonega, Georgia on October 26, 2016 but dropped last year's meeting by that same score on October 25, 2017 at Laker Field. Earlier this season UNG notched a 5-2 decision on September 29 in the mountains.

This will be only the third meeting in the PBC Tournament between the teams with the Lakers taking both by 1-0 scores. The first came in the semifinals in Morrow on November 2, 2007 with the other in the quarterfinal round on November 1, 2011 in Dahlonega.

There will be live video and live stats coverage of the game, both of which are available on www.ClaytonStateSports.com.
