Clayton State’s Trip to Francis Marion Features Handful of PBC’s Top Players

MORROW, Ga. – In a matchup of teams looking for their first league victory, Clayton State (4-4, 0-1 PBC) men's soccer resumes Peach Belt Conference action with a trip to Francis Marion (4-3, 0-2 PBC) on Saturday, September 30. Kickoff is set for approximately 5:30 p.m. following the conclusion of the women's contest.

The game will feature some of the top players in the PBC so far this season, particularly on the offensive side of the ball. Headlining that group are the top two offensive threats in the league with FMU's Levin Sandmann and Clayton State sophomore Dean Foster (Johannesburg, South Africa). Those two players are tied for the league lead with six goals apiece and hold down the top two spots in points with Sandmann at 14 and Foster at 13.

Helping to set up the Lakers offense is junior midfielder Tom Mitchinson (Middlesbrough, England) who is tied for the NCAA Division II lead in total assists (7) and assists per game (0.88).

Following three assists in a 5-1 win over Auburn-Montgomery last time out he is tied with Mark Bako of Salem International in both categories. It's a three-way tie for total assists with Charleston's (W. Va.) Kieran Bywater joining that group. Thanks to a goal on the season, Mitchinson's nine points also rank him in the Top-10 in points in the PBC. Additionally, junior defender Kwaku Dwamena (Richmond, Va.) is sixth with 11 points and tied for second with five scores.

One of the longest standing series in program history, the Lakers barely trail the all-time series at 10-11-6 over 27 games with the Patriots dating back to the first meeting on October 8, 1993. After going 0-7-2 in the first nine meetings, Clayton State rebounded for an impressive 12 game unbeaten streak from November 1, 2003 through October 13, 2012. That stretch included three straight ties from October 27, 2007 to October 11, 2009. Most recently, FMU picked up a 5-3 victory at Laker Field on October 1, 2016.

There will be live video and live stats coverage of the game, both of which are available on www.ClaytonStateSports.com.
