MORROW, Ga. – For the first time since 1996, Clayton State (2-2, 0-0 PBC) will take on Southern Wesleyan (1-2, 1-0 CC) as the teams meet in a non-conference NCAA Division II men's soccer game on Wednesday, September 13. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Laker Field.
 
The teams have not met since a Georgia Athletic Conference Tournament Second Round game on November 8, 1996 when both clubs were still members of the NAIA. Clayton State would win that game and advance to the GAC Championship game before falling 3-0 to Brewton-Parker.
 
Besides that path to a championship berth, the teams are linked together even further back in the program's history. Their first game on September 19, 1992 in Central, South Carolina was also the first ever game in Lakers history.
 
Clayton State delivered a 7-0 victory in that game and would go on to win the first five meetings through September 20, 1995, the last of three games in the series at Laker Field. SWU notched their only victory by a narrow 2-1 margin on October 16, 1996 to snap that streak. Overall, the Lakers hold a 6-1 advantage in the series.
