WINGATE, N.C. – In the finale of the PBC/SAC Challenge, Clayton State (0-2, 0-0 PBC) battled No. 14 Wingate (2-0, 0-0 SAC) into the second half before falling 59-44 in an NCAA Division II women's basketball game on Saturday, November 11.

Redshirt-junior center
Shaquoria Miles (Garysburg, N.C.) led the way with 11 points and six rebounds while redshirt-junior guard
Kietta Saunders (Chicago, Ill.) finished with six points, five assists and four caroms. Junior guard

Â
The Bulldogs jumped out to the early lead as they used a 16-4 run over the first 6:47 to build a 22-6 lead by the end of the opening quarter. The change of period would seem to lead to a different Lakers team taking the floor as they put together an impressive 11-2 run to cut it to 24-17 just over three minutes in.
Â
With Wingate holding a 27-18 advantage at the 4:43 mark, Clayton State would continue to find their offense as they mounted another run, this time 12-5 to close the half and trail just 32-30 at the break.
Â
That margin would stretch to six in the first minute of the second half before growing to 46-37 with 2:47 to play in the third quarter. The Lakers would keep it close, drawing to within 48-42 at the end of the period and eventually close to within 50-44 with 6:19 to play.
Â
From there, however, it would be all Bulldogs as they scored the next nine points and closed out the 59-48 victory to wrap the PBC/SAC Challenge.
Â
Danasia Witherspoon led Wingate with a double-double of 17 points and 11 rebounds with four assists, three steals and a 13-of-16 performance from the foul line. Marta Miscenko finished with 15 points and three blocks and Caroline Averette just missed a double-double of her own with eight points and nine caroms.
Â
The Lakers are back in action when they return to The Loch on Thursday, November 16. That day they will take on Carver in an 11 a.m. exhibition on Education Day.
