Double-Doubles From Moore and Benford Lead No. 23/24 Clayton State to 68-47 Win Over Georgia Southwestern

MORROW, Ga. – In a rematch of the game that began their recent three game skid, No. 23/24 Clayton State (17-4, 11-3 PBC) wasted no time in jumping out to a commanding lead on their way to downing Georgia Southwestern (9-12, 3-11 PBC) 68-47 in an NCAA Division II women's basketball game on Saturday, February 6.

Senior center DaQuenna Moore (Plantersville, S.C.) recorded an impressive double-double of 11 points and 17 rebounds, the latter being one shy of equaling her career-high, to pace the Lakers. She was joined with a double-double by redshirt-junior center Andrea Benford (Madison, Ga.) with 13 points, 11 boards and five steals in 26 minutes.

Senior guard Kenisha Jones-Barrett (Winter Haven, Fla.) finished with 16 points and seven steals in 22 minutes and redshirt-junior guard Tierra Johnson (Edison, N.J.) chipped in with nine points and a game-high five assists to round out the top performers.

Having lost at GSW little more than a week ago, the Lakers came out strong, racing out to a 14-5 lead by the 2:57 mark. That margin was due in large part to Moore, who ripped down eight rebounds during that stretch.
A 9-3 burst by the Hurricanes over the next 3:15 would cut the deficit to 17-14 by the 9:42 mark of the second quarter.

From there, Clayton State would regain control with a 16-6 run in a span of just over eight minutes to extend to a 33-20 margin. An exchange of buckets then closed out the frame with a 35-22 difference at the half.

It would get no better in the second half for the Hurricanes. Holding a 38-24 advantage at the 8:59 mark, the Lakers exploded for a 19-7 run that would push the lead to a game-high 26 points, 57-31, with 1:19 to go in the third. From there, GSW would staunch the bleeding but would gain little ground as Clayton State's lead would not dip below 20 points the rest of the way as they closed out the 68-47 victory.

Yvonna Dunkley led the way for the Hurricanes with 13 points and five boards while Va'Queshia Hall had 11 points and six rebounds. Jasmine McSwain had 10 points and three steals and Aleah Holden added eight caroms in 25 minutes.

The Lakers are back in action on Wednesday, February 10 when they begin a three-game road trip at USC Aiken. Tip-off is set for 1:30 p.m. in Aiken, S.C.
