The game also served as the Lakers Senior Night, where nine seniors were honored prior to the game.
Following more than 27 minutes of scoreless action, GSW broke through as Drew Endreson picked up a loose ball in front of the net and pounded it home on the ground for a 1-0 lead at 27:30.
They wouldn't hold the lead for long as junior forward
Denisha Paskell (McDonough, Ga.) converted on a pass from junior forward
Iciar Duran (Madrid, Spain) just 33 seconds later to even it at 1-1. Both team's defenses would then return to form for the remainder of the half and send the teams to the break deadlocked.
The second half would be a completely different story. Just over five minutes in, senior midfielder
Brooke Bortles (Suwanee, Ga.) fired off a shot from the far right side that ended up in the back left corner of the net for a 2-1 advantage at 50:20.
It would then be Paskell's turn to strike again, this time breaking away down the left side and beating the keeper for her second goal of the night, this one coming at 54:39. Already holding a 3-1 lead, the Lakers would continue their offensive onslaught as senior defender
Lara Moehlmann (Bremen, Germany) took advantage of a corner from junior defender
Siobhan Wilson (Essex, England), heading it in at the 55:55 mark.
That 4-1 margin, earned in a matter of just over five minutes, would remain that way for the next 12-plus minutes. It would be Moehlmann that would add to it for a second straight time as she took a touch from senior midfielder
Maria Marti Bartis (Girona, Spain) in front of the net and proceeded to drive home her second straight goal, this one at 68:39 to make it 5-1.
Once again it would not stay that way long as Paskell delivered her career-high third goal, this one off of a pass from Marti Bartis at 73:54. The Hurricanes would respond less than four minutes later as Ella Hawkins cut the deficit to 6-2 with a mini breakaway at 78:48.
That would be the last offense they would see, however, as the Lakers closed out the game with the first career goal from junior midfielder
Claudia Granja (Barcelona, Spain) to reach the final margin of 7-2.
Georgia Southwestern was led offensively by solo goals from Endreson and Hawkins while Elyse Gowen played 72:14 in net. She made 11 saves but allowed five goals to suffer the loss and drop to 1-9 on the season.
For Clayton State, Paskell drove home three goals with Moehlmann notching a career-best two scores. Bortles and Granja would add solo goals and Marti Bartis and Duran each added a pair of assists. Wilson rounded out the offense with her team-leading seventh assist.
Following a Senior Night start by senior goalkeeper
Charlotte McCormack (Wexford, Ireland), redshirt-sophomore goalkeeper
Jessica Charman (Denham, England) took over for the remaining 89:46. She made three saves and allowed three goals to pick up her first win of the season, moving to 1-0.
The Lakers return to action on Friday, October 23 when they head to USC Aiken for a Friday night game. Game time is set for 5 p.m. in Aiken, S.C.
