Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Clayton State defeats Georgia College 82-77 for ninth straight win

Morrow, GA – The Clayton State women's basketball team extended its winning streak to nine games on Monday with a 82-77 victory, but the win didn't come without some drama in the final seconds at the Athletics Center.

A three-pointer by Georgia College's Brandi McKinney cut the Laker lead to five points, 78-73 with 1:08 remaining. On the ensuing possession, the Lakers and the Bobcats got tangled up going for a loose ball on the Clayton State end with 36 remaining. The Georgia College bench called a time-out, but the only problem … the Bobcats didn't have one resulting in a technical foul.

Clayton State's Bena Hanyard drained both technical free throws, giving the Lakers a seven point advantage. After the free throws, the Lakers maintained possession and guard Kayla Pryce was then fouled. She hit two free throws with 35 seconds left to seal the victory and give the Lakers an 82-73 lead.

Georgia College opened the game on fire, taking a 12-0 lead on a jumper by guard Enisha Donley with 16:13 left in the first half. Clayton State answered though over the next eight minutes and took its first lead of the game after a 16-3 run. A free throw by forward Briah Woods gave the Lakers 16-15 lead.

The game went back-and-forth for the remainder of the period before Clayton State guard Tiayra Green drained a 3-pointer at the halftime buzzer. Green was big for the Lakers in the game, finishing with a team-high 23 points, which included 5-of-11 from 3-point land.

In the second half, the Lakers pushed their lead to double-digits, 50-40, with a basket by center Andrea Benford in the paint with 14:25 left in the game. The Lakers increased their lead to a game high 12 points, 60-48, at the 9:09 mark on two free throws by Hanyard.
