AMERICUS, Ga. – Three different goal scorers helped Clayton State (7-5-1, 4-3-0 PBC) to their fourth win in their last five games as they posted a 3-0 victory at Georgia Southwestern (3-9-2, 1-6-1 PBC) in an NCAA Division II men's soccer game on Wednesday, October 22.
Junior midfielder Avery Shepard (Suffolk, England), and leading goal scorer, got things started early as he connected to the top left corner of the goal off a pass from Sekou Thornwell (Atlanta, Ga.) at the 6:36 mark. After taking that margin to the break, neither team would find any offense for much of the second half. The lone score of the frame would come when sophomore midfielder Sean Morris (Cambridge, England) notched an unassisted goal from right in front of the net at the 85:11 mark. From there, Clayton State's defense would hold strong to preserve the 3-0 shutout.
Shepard, Nakhil and Morris notched solo goals to lead the Lakers will Thornwell and Cruz each had an assist on the day. Senior goalkeeper Nick Punter (Suffolk, England) improved to 5-5-1 on the year as he posted his fourth shutout of the season while making five saves.
