In one of the last meets of her collegiate career, graduate Maia Kuhnen (Trier, Germany) delivered one of her best performances in leading Clayton State women's track & field on the final day of the 2016 Peach Belt Conference Championships on Saturday, April 23.
Â
Kuhnen earned her first All-Peach Belt Conference honor as she placed 3-of-19 in the 800-meters. Her time of 2:13.83 was just five tenths of a second shy of an NCAA Division II Provisional Qualifying Mark and was bested only by a pair of runners that broke the event record. Earlier in the championships, she placed 5-of-24 in the 1,500-meters with a time of 4:41.82.
Â
Following the PBC Championship, Kuhnen took on a staunch field at the primarily Division I Georgia Invitational on Saturday, April 30. There she finished 3-of-9 in the 800-meters with a time of 2:13.65. That mark was just three tenths of a second away from an NCAA Division II Provisional mark and bested competitors from Division I schools such as Auburn, Coastal Carolina, Georgia Tech and Georgia. The only collegiate competitor to finish ahead of her hailed from UGA.
