Senior defender Jordan Knight (Javea, Spain) continues to be a driving force behind a Laker defense that has allowed only two goals in 544 minutes, surrendering just one in 184 minutes this past week. He has also been a key reason why they are among the national leaders with four shutouts.

This past week would add to those numbers as Knight played all 184 minutes, beginning with 94 in a narrow 1-0 overtime defeat to a solid Montevallo (9/19) squad. Losses will happen to even the best teams in the country but this was not for lack of effort as the Lakers ironman would be critical to sending the game to OT deadlocked at 0-0.

In the 84th minute a Falcon player was able to skirt around keeper Theo Blachon close on the left side of the goal. Left with a wide open net he sent it towards the far corner only to see Knight charge in and knock it away for a defensive save. In OT it would take a tremendous shot to finally beat the previously undefeated Lakers.

The senior leader would be just that in a 3-0 victory over West Alabama (9/21) that capped a week that saw Clayton State return to the national rankings (No. 19) for the first time in eight years. In that game he would play all 90 minutes and anchor the defenses fourth shutout in six games. The Laker defense would scatter 11 shots, only five on goal, against an aggressive UWA team to move to 5-1 on the year.
