Redshirt-senior midfielder Ryan King (County Durham, England) returned to the field after two years away and promptly took things over, scoring three goals as Clayton State opened 2-0 for the first time since the 2015 season.

He would factor prominently in both of those victories, and in fact, would produce all of the offense in a 2-1 victory over an Anderson (9/5) team that reached the NCAA Division II Tournament. He pounded home a corner in the 48th minute before collecting his own rebound off a penalty shot and drilling it to the back of the net for the eventual game-winner.

Taking on Erskine (9/7) he played a strong midfield to prevent the Flying Fleet from even attempting a shot on goal while delivering the clinching score in a 2-0 decision. That would come in the 74th minute when he took advantage of a free kick from the left side.

It is the first time that Clayton State has been 2-0 since defeating these same two teams in the 2015 season, also both at Laker Field.
