Sophomore defender Manoly Baquerizo (Guayaquil, Ecuador) delivered a career performance this past week while helping lead Clayton State to a program record offensive performance.
With just one game on the docket, the offensive minded defender took full advantage as she delivered a career-high three goals in a 5-0 victory against Georgia Southwestern (10/11). Up 1-0, Baquerizo would make it a natural hat trick with scores at 35:44, 51:56 and 87:30. She had previously scored a solo goal eight times in her brief career.
Her performance also helped the Lakers register the highest scoring two-game stretch in the program's 23-year history. Along with an 8-0 victory at Albany State the previous week, the five goal output made for 13 goals in two games, surpassing the 1997 team that registered 12 goals between September 17-21.
On the year, Baquerizo now has six goals and four assists for 16 points.
