Freshman Clifford Russell, Jr. (Pelham, Ga.) delivered a record-setting performance at the Emory Classic on Saturday, March 25.
Russell won his 100-meter heat and posted a qualifying time of 10.96 earlier in the day before moving on to the finals in the afternoon. Taking on the other seven qualifiers, he delivered a record-setting time of 10.72 to place 6-of-47 overall. That time surpassed the mark of redshirt-junior teammate Adarion Watson, who set the record with a time of 10.77 at the 2015 Peach Belt Conference Championships (4/18).
In addition to that record outing, Russell was also key to the Lakers success in the 4x100-meters. Teaming with junior Melvin Ezeokonkwo (Riverdale, Ga.), freshman Chris Florence (Newnan, Ga.) and Watson for a 3-of-18 finish, that group posted a time of 42.30.
