Four Laker women named to PBC All-Academic team

 Morrow, GA  – The Clayton State women's cross country won the 2012 Peach Belt Conference Championship earlier this month, and along with their success on the playing field, several members of the team are also starring in the classroom.

The Laker women's squad had four runners named to the 2012 Peach Belt All-Academic squad, two to the first team and two to the honorable mention squad.

Senior Paige Galvin and junior Samantha Walling were both named to the first-team All-Academic squad after also being named to the All-Peach Belt Conference team for their athletic efforts. Galvin has a 3.60 grade point average and is majoring in Psychology, while Walling has a 3.80 grade point average and is majoring in Nursing.

To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at her current institution.

Sophomores Jessica Smith and Maia Kuhnen were also recognized as honorable mention members of the All-Academic team. Smith has a 3.60 grade point average and is majoring in Mathematics, while Kuhnen holds a 3.51 and is majoring in Health and Fitness Management.

Clayton State, the No. 1-ranked team in the Southeast Region, will return to action on Saturday, November 3rd in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional at McAlpine Creek Park in Charlotte, NC.
