Laker women’s cross country ranked 2nd in Southeast Region

SOUTHEAST REGION RANKINGS

Morrow, GA – The Clayton State women's cross country team moved up one spot to 2nd in the Southeast Region rankings released today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

Mount Olive from the Conference Carolinas is the top team in the region, moving up from second last week. Peach Belt rival Columbus sits behind the Lakers in third place. King College, representing the Conference Carolinas and Wingate from the South Atlantic Conference, round out the top five. PBC foe UNC Pembroke dropped from first to seventh in the poll.

"We continue to slowly move up in the region rankings.  How we finish at our regional championship on November third will be the true measure where we stand.  Our ladies have worked hard this season and we'll hopefully see the results of that hard work in the weeks ahead."

The Southeast Region consists of 36 schools, from the Peach Belt, Conference Carolinas and South Atlantic Conferences. The top three teams at the Nov. 3 NCAA Division II Southeast Regional Championships advance to the NCAA Division II National Championships later this fall.

The Clayton State women will return to action on Saturday, traveling to Montevallo for the Peach Belt Conference Championships. The women's portion of the conference meet will begin at 9:45 a.m. (CDT).
