Clayton State places two on Peach Belt Conference Women’s Cross Country All-Academic Team
AUGUSTA, Ga. – October 27, 2011 – The Peach Belt Conference released its 2011 All-Academic Team for women's cross country on Thursday, and the Clayton State Lakers had two representatives get selected for the prestigious honor.
Earning PBC All-Academic honors for Clayton State was junior Paige Galvin and sophomore Samantha Walling. They are two of 14 runners selected to this season's team. To be eligible for the All-Academic team, a student-athlete must 1) participate in at least half of his/her team's events and be either a starter or significant contributor; 2) achieved a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) and 3) completed at least one full academic year at his or her current institution.
Galvin, a junior from Bremen, Ill., earned All-Peach Belt Conference honors last Saturday at the Peach Belt Conference Championships, finishing 12th overall. She also recorded two Top 30 finishes during the regular season, including 13th at the Georgia Southwestern Remembrance Run. Her best 5K time this season was 19:35 at the Foothills Invitational.
Galvin's current grade-point average is 3.58
Walling, a sophomore from Galt, Calif., also earned All-Peach Belt Conference honors by finishing 13th overall. She recorded two Top 20 finishes during the regular season, including 10th overall at the Georgia Southwestern Remembrance Run. Her best 5K time was 19:21, also at the Foothills Invitational.
Walling carries a 3.78 cumulative grade-point average in nursing.
Clayton State will compete next in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regionals on Nov. 5 in Charlotte.
