Clayton State women finish sixth at Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – October 1, 2011 – Running in one of the biggest regular season meets of the season, the Clayton State Laker women's cross country team placed sixth on Saturday in the Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park.

The Lakers finished sixth with 185 points in their race, 38 points behind Concord and 42 behind Hanover in a meet that featured over 100 teams in three different races. Wheeling Jesuit won this race, featuring mostly NCAA Division II, Division III and NAIA programs, with 42 points.

Individually for the Lakers, the top five runners finished less than a minute apart from each other. Freshman Jessica Smith had the top Clayton State finish in 25th with a time of 20:00.48 in the 5K event, followed sophomore Samantha Walling in 31st in 20:07.38 and sophomore Paige Galvin in 35th in 20:14.94.

Freshman Maia Kuhnen placed 55th in 20:35.81, while sophomore Gisele Javois placed 73rd in 20:54.40. Rounding out the Laker scoring was freshman Holly McNorton in 151st in 22:25.37

Clayton State returns to action next Saturday (Oct. 8) with the Foothills Invitational at Jacksonville State.
